Animating Print!

While working at Dumbwaiter Design we were challenged to create an internal motion spot that features our capability to do print work. It sounded really easy at first until we faced reality. We quickly realized that print and motion just didn’t go together that well.

We went through many phases of ideation and concept development. Storyboards were made for all kinds of concepts from CG driven, live video to hand animated. Every one of those sounded good but then it was not really that practical to do and it required a lot of resources. Continue reading →

The Mill’s Audi ‘Coins’

A new outstanding animated piece by The Mill. According to the studio director Russell Tickner shot 35mm live action performance of the coins spinning from different angles with different speeds and then the Mill’s R&D department created the 3D code that would help simulate the movement of coins in this superb realistic rendering.

RAF 2009 Addy Awards Intro from Dumbwaiter Design on Vimeo.

When a client approaches you and asks for an animation that is inspired by an existing one, things can get a bit tricky. When the RAF commissioned Dumbwaiter Design to create a show opener for the Rochester Advertising Awards of 2009 they had a particular theme in mind, Mad Men. Its a TV show about advertising in the early sixties and Imaginary Forces have created a signature title sequence for this TV show which won many awards for its originality and unique production value.
